John Vlastelica joined the Riviera Advisors team in 2006. Prior to joining Riviera Advisors, John spent most of his corporate Human Resources and recruiting career working in two of the fastest growing industries over the last dozen years: wireless communications and e-commerce. John spent the mid '90s at AT&T Wireless, a three-time “Best Company to Work For” award winner that more than tripled in size during his tenure. In early 1998, before the dot-com boom, he was recruited into Amazon.com as their first Technical Recruiting Manager. By 1999, he had built out his recruiting team, and delivered the recruiting strategy, processes, tools, and training that grew the 250-person technology organization to 750 people in under 12 months. Over the next few years, the company would reach over 7,500 employees and achieve Fortune 500 status. Later, as Amazon's Director of Recruiting Programs, he'd spend several years building up their corporate recruiting team and their college recruiting and candidate generation programs to achieve aggressive, high-volume, high-bar recruiting goals.
John has served several terms as President of Seattle’s Employment Management Association, a Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) affiliated organization that now attracts hundreds of professionals to its programs and conferences. John has also served several terms on Washington State's largest SHRM chapter, the Lake Washington Human Resource Association. John’s expertise, engaging style, and practical approach makes him a popular speaker at professional recruiting conferences and association meetings around the country. Additionally, John’s work has been published in two books on staffing best practices: On Staffing: Advice and Perspectives from HR Leaders and CareerXroads 2003.
John graduated magna cum laude, and first in his class, from Western Washington University’s Business Program, and was selected as the Department of Management's Outstanding Graduate of the Year. John is based in Seattle, Washington.
